Tripadvisor, the largest travel recommendations and reviews platform in the world, has revealed the top destinations for 2025.
The destinations are shaped through the reviews and suggestions – reports of the platform’s users, helping future travelers choose places for vacations.
Tripadvisor creates seven lists annually: The top destinations, the “trendy” destinations, the best cultural destinations, the best food destinations, the honeymoon destinations, while this year Tripadvisor is introducing two new categories: The Solo Travel Destinations category and the Top Destinations of the last 25 years based on reviews of all times.
In the last category, which is also the most important, Crete figures in eighth place. “Crete is a Mediterranean jewel. Rich in archaeological and mythological history reflected in ancient ruins and cultural attractions. Enjoy the charming atmosphere of the Old Venetian Harbor of the city of Chania or the fortresses and monasteries of Rethymno. The awesome Minoan ruins date back to 1900 BC, and the majestic Mount Ida (Psiloritis) is said to host the cave where Zeus was born,” the platform states.

2. New York
3. Rome
4. Paris
5. Bali
6. Barcelona
7. Dubai
8. Crete
9. Lisbon
10. Bangkok
“This year London has moved up two places to become the No. 1 Top Destination in the World, taking the title from Dubai, which has proudly held the top spot since 2022,” the platform notes.
Crete is also ranked 9th in the “World Heritage Sites” category, with Bali in first place. Furthermore, in the category of the best culinary destinations on the planet, Athens is ranked 10th.
Let’s not forget that Elafonisi is the number 1 beach in the world, based on users, and Myrtos in Kefalonia appears at number 10.
