Following the road east out of Palaiochora towards the Gulf of Selino, you will pass Camping Palaiochora. After 4 km two nice and secluded beaches appear: the westernmost portion of a broad seaside frontage that extends for 17 km.
Anidri Beach
This, the first, is situated at the mouth of the gorge of the same name, which begins 3 or so km inland at the village of Anidri (The Waterless Place). It is quite a large beach with thick sands and gorgeous turquoise waters.
The scenery, especially to the east end, is particularly characterized by large rocks that stick up from the shore. Not a trace of infrastructure is to be seen, but at least the vegetation offers some shade. Be prepared!
Gialiskari Beach
Beside and adjoining the beach of Anidri is this one (aka Gyaniskari or Dyaliskari): actually two, one each side of a small spit of land projecting into the sea, but both equally
Charming and idyllic. The west side is made of small pebbles, the east has a deep and pale sand. The water is clear and deep.
The area is but slightly developed: a café-canteen and a few umbrellas and sun-beds. To the east grow plentiful tamarisks which shed a natural shadow and give relief from the hot suns of South Crete.
Here nudism is tolerated, especially on the eastern side.
