Aposeleme

Between the seaside resorts of Kato Gouves and Analipsi, in a a distance of 19 km from Heraklion, the Aposleme river flows sown to a most attractive beach, It is some 750 m in length, with sand and shallow waters. But lightly organized, it has a few sunbeds, umbrellas, but also some tamarisks to provide shade to the visitor.

Near the river’s mouth, there has formed an important wetland, which provides shelter for a good number of migratory birds – and other animals.

Tavernas, restaurants, cafeterias, bars and other shops are all to be found in the neighbouring settlements of Kato Gouves and Analipsi. Also, should you choose to stay here, there are many choices of hotels, rent-rooms and apartments in both the villages.

To get to the beach, you must take the old National road east out of Heraklion, to Malia and Aghios Nikolaos, until you arrive at the settlement of Kato Gouves. Then, follow the main road of the village until you reach the beach and turn right. Continue along the coastal road to its end and turn right on the road that you meet. To reach the beach you have to go to the back side of the hotel, situated between the road and the beach. The streets around the hotel leads to the beach Aposelemi.

Alternatively, you can go on further along the old national road to Analipsi, then take the road that goes to its beach. Once there turn left (back towards the west and Heraklion) and keep on to the end of that section. When you can get no further, the beach you desire will be pretty much beside you on the right.

Again proceeding ever eastwards, we come to Chersonisos, a very popular area for tourism in Crete: it has a number of beaches. The Limanakia Chersonisou are small, lovely coves, where the crowds of visitors enjoy the summer swimming!
