Koutsounari Beach
Here is a large beautiful strand, with small pebbles and blue waters, with tamarisks aplenty. Behind it is the village with the same name: both south of the picturesque village of Aghios Ioannis. Also known correctly as the Long Beach, it runs for 5 km. Exposed as it is to the local strong winds, it is yet calm and ideal for anyone fleeing the urban fuss and bother. In several spots, especially close to the larger hotels, it is well organized: umbrellas, sunbeds, many options for water-sports. Rentable rooms, tavernas and other shops exist, as does an organized camping ground.
At the east end of Koutsounari have formed two beaches: Psaropoula in its own cove and the Villa Despoti.
Psaropoula Beach
The cove and the beach of Psaropoula are to the east end of Koutsounari. Well organized with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers, it offers opportunities for water-sports. It has sand, some rocks and blue calm waters. On the beach front some hotels ply their trade.
Villa Despoti (Kakkos beach)
East again from Psaropoula is this one: its name is taken from the property here, said to belong to a member of the clergy (despoti means a grade of priest in Greek, as well as a tyrant!). Situated as it is in front of a large hotel, it is developed: umbrellas, sunbeds, and facilities for water-sports. It has the typical coarse sand, cliffs and rocks at the edges and blue waters.
A bit to the east is Kakia Skala.
Kakia Skala Beach
At the mouth of the Mylonas gorge is a beach (Bad Stairs, or simply Kakkos from a hotel there): large, it has small pebbles, very clear crystalline waters, and a goodly number of tamarisks all around it. It is not organized, but only a short walk away from hotels and tavernas.
If you visit, take a walk up the Mylonas Gorge, wonderfully green with its pines, plane trees and waterfalls (the biggest has a drop of 40 m). In the pools that form at their bases, you can enjoy a refreshingly cool dip!
The beach Ferma is next along, to the east as ever.
