Lying at the mouth of the Chochlakies Gorge, this is a lovely, calm beach with sand, small gravelly stones and clear and crystalline waters which deepen suddenly – suitable therefore for swimming and underwater exploration.
Limestone outcrops shut in the beach on two sides: at the north are a few tall tamarisks, whilst in the rocks behind some caves have formed.
The beach is not organized and you will find no infrastructure: when you visit, take care to have food and drink with you.
Its solitude ensures it is a haven for unsupervised camping and nudism.
To get there from Siteia, follow the Siteia-Zakros road, passing through Palaikastro. After that, at the village of Karoumes, leave your vehicle and continue on foot for about a kilometer, which will take you into the gorge and so on down to the beach.
The trip will take about an hour on foot, but it is easy with a passable path.
The next beach to the north is Skinias.
