Potamos is right next door to Pyrgos, on the northwest side of Gavdos (at a distance of 7 km the ferry port). It is a large, attractive and sandy beach with cedar trees right down to the water’s edge; it is located at the mouth of a small gorge.
The beach is accessed by walking along a path that starts from Ambelos. The route is relatively easy; indeed pleasant because passes by pine woods, with nice views to the island of Gaudopoula. The hike will take about 1.5-2 hours. Alternatively a dirt road comes within 500 m of the beach.
Potamos offers seclusion but no infrastructure. You can camp under the trees so long as you have your own water and food. Also you enjoy a makeshift spa, using the natural clay that can be found in rocks (with distinctive formations).
