Different types of rocks from the Plakoi limestone unit are found along the route from the settlement of Kato Doxaro to the Monastery of Vosakos. Typically observed are slab-like marbles, yellow schist of Gkigkilos, and white massive marbles with beddings. The formations of slab marbles are impressive due to the characteristic folds they create. The folds of Vosakos are the result of geological pressures exerted on the rocks about 23 million years ago. For at least 1 km, various folds are observed in the road cut, making the location resemble an outdoor geological exhibition!
