Almyrida beach is 38 km east from Rethymno. It is not visible from the Rethymnon – Heraklion stretch of the national highway. You must make a detour from the point where you see the sign: after Sisses (if you come from Heraklion) or before Sisses (if you come from Rethymnon).
It is a quiet and sandy beach with clear waters. At its west end are some ruins of an old customs post, associated with the carob trade.
On the beach are to be found sun loungers and 1-2 restaurants for coffee, snacks or lunch. Be aware that when the winds blow, the beach has quite a lot of waves.
