The beach of Gerani gets its name from the village. This is 13 km from Chania and is located between Maleme and Platanias:
Gerani allegedly is the site of ancient Cydonia.
On the 2 km-long beach are many sites preferred by the loggerhead turtle (caretta caretta) for its eggs. So if you come here, you need to pay attention to where you tread, especially in the evening.
Gerani boasts all the necessary facilities (e.g. restaurants, hotels) and the beach is organized with umbrellas, sunbeds and a lifeguard.
