Mochlos

Mochlos is 48 km approx. from Agios Nickolaos and 40 km approx. from Siteia. A traditional fishing village by the sea, on a small cove and with an equally small beach.

Mochlos

If here you can visit it the rocky island of Aghios Nikolaos right opposite and only 150 m off the shore: a boat can be hired, or one can swim. The Minoan settlement of the zenith of their culture and some earlier finds are visible on the island – precious golden jewellery from the tombs are on display at Heraklion Archaeological Museum. The church on the island is worth looking at.

The main beach here is small, and not developed: sandy with pebbles, and deep and clear blue waters.

Mochlos and its environs house other similar and rocky coves with pebbles: because of the rocky sea-floors, there are great opportunities for fishing and diving.

All the beaches are close to the village, where you can obtain all the necessities at the shops, including a mini-market and a bakers. If you decide to pass your holidays here, you can choose from among a number of rent-rooms and apartments and enjoy freshly caught and cooked fish right on the waves at one of the tavernas.

Heading east, and a little after Siteia, is the beach of Aghia Fotia.
