In the context of the JoInOuT project, Aegean Solutions proceeded with the collection of data concerning Agrotourism. Additionally, data and information were gathered regarding points of interest, encompassing aspects such as culture, environment, economy, etc.
The process utilized for data identification and analysis was as follows:
- Data web scraping ->
- Data engineering ->
- Hosting on a Data Lake ->
- Visualization using Power BI.
The data was extracted from various data sources and processed to be loaded into the Power BI tool.
Furthermore, Aegean Solutions A.E. embarked on creating an Agrotourism Business Intelligence System (AgroTour_BIS), through which various types of data related to tourism, infrastructure, culture, and other elements concerning the countryside of Crete were collected and analyzed. The design of this system was based on the platform of the Rural Tourism Network "epaithros."
Linked businesses can utilize the platform as a decision support tool to recognize the elements of the area they operate in, potential dissemination channels, and to plan their actions. For example, if they have knowledge of hotel bookings, the countries of origin, and the age of tourists visiting Crete, they can design corresponding promotional campaigns and educational programs for them.
The platform features:
- A Knowledge Base for semantic representation and integration of heterogeneous data and information from multiple and different sources (linked data) regarding agrotourism, infrastructure, and culture of Crete.
- Visualization tool for these data by region and by type of action or business.
- Analysis tool for the unified/correlated data and information concerning Crete overall and for all fields of interest (agrotourism, infrastructure, culture).
Visual analytics tool for the unified/correlated data, information, and knowledge produced (through inference) to support decision-making.
The project entitled "Joint Innovative Activities for Outdoor Tourism" and distinctive title: "JoInOuT", is implemented within the framework of the Action "Cooperative Innovation Formations/SCC" - 2nd Call: Businesses" and is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by National Resources in the context of the Operational Program "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPANEK)" of the NSRF 2014-2020" (Project code: ΓΓ2CL-0359457).
