Milatos

Here is a pretty fishing village with some tourist development. Milatos is 34 km. west from Agios Nikolaos and 45 km east of Heraklion. It has a relatively large beach fronting the village, with both sandy and pebbly sections. Exposed to winds, it therefore has plenty of waves at times. For this reason the locals often prefer the beach within the small harbour, with its sand and calm waters: this is protected from the north winds.

Another choice for swimming are small coves about 1 km east of the village. None of the beaches are organized, but in the village you can find restaurants and tavernas and the expected tourist infrastructure.

It is also worth combining your dip with a visit to a cave just outside the village: here during the revolution of 1823 the civilian population hid from the Turks, but with a tragic outcome, alas!
