Sfinari & Platanakia

Sfinari

At a distance of 60 km from Chania and 32 km from Kastelli Kissamos is located the beach of Sfinari

This beach is the perfect choice for those keen on diving, because of its magnificent sea-bed.

It is quiet otherwise, a place in whose blue waters you may bathe. It has both sand and pebbles – and sufficient tamarisks around and about to allow you to take your rest in their shadows.

Well enough organized, you will find umbrellas, sun-beds and showers. By the beach is the village of Sfinari, with plentiful tavernas that serve fresh fish and with rent-rooms.

Platanakia beach comes next as you head southwards.

Platanakia

A small beach, isolated at the mouth of a small gorge, in a sheltered location and surrounded by high cliffs.

With its blue waters, sand and rocks, Platanakia (Little Plane Trees) is perfect for diving enthusiasts. To reach it – and do not try this unless you have a 4-wheel drive, you must follow a difficult dirt-road from the village of Kampos that takes you to the secluded and so quiet beach.

Alternatively, you can get there through the gorge that starts from the village of Platanakia: a hike of 2 hours.

Because the beach is out of the way and not developed, it is a good idea to take all you need to make life easier for yourselves when there!

Going south once more, next to be found is the beach of Gylisma or Afratolakkoi.
