Amoudara is a vast sandy beach that stretches from the west boundaries of the city of Heraklion and extends east to the mouth of the River Almyros: it has shallow waters, and here and there is organized.
The beach in front of the tourist resorts and hotels has all the desired facilities for food, coffee, and of courses, places to stay. Here you will find beach bars and the opportunity for water sports like windsurfing and kite-surfing, on account of the winds that blow most of the summer long.
The only negative point is the looming electricity power station at the west end of the Gulf of Heraklion, although this does not seem to put off either the locals or the tourists who flock here each summer.
